About
My name is Aline Ableson, and for 13 years I taught in the public school system. Literacy has always been my favourite subject, and while teaching in the classroom, I would joke about wanting to teach nothing but literacy.
As the oldest of my four children entered fourth grade, it was clear that he was struggling. His difficulties led me to research effective literacy instruction and intervention. I quickly discovered that my teacher training lacked some very essential elements.
Since 2018, I have invested countless hours researching effective methods for teaching children how to read. My research led me to the work of Dr. Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham. The work of these extraordinary individuals transformed my views on effective literacy instruction.

Orton-Gillingham
Orton-Gillingham is an approach, not a program. As such, it allows for considerable flexibility in meeting each learner's unique needs.
Students who have experienced difficulty in acquiring reading and writing skills require patience, empathy and flexibility. Orton-Gillingham focuses on both the academic and emotional needs of each learner. Instructional goals and programming are unique to each student, with progress monitoring used to guide instruction.
There are many wonderful Orton-Gillingham-based programs on the market; my service differs in that the instruction students receive is not from a commercially available program. Each client receives individualized instruction based on their strengths and needs, both academic and emotional.
